Jose Mourinho has reportedly agreed a new five-year deal with Manchester United, who are hoping to announce the renewal in the next ten days.

According to a report by The Sun, Jose Mourinho is on the verge of signing a new five-year deal with Manchester United. The Portuguese manager will be earning £250,000 per week, and the Red Devils are hoping to make an official announcement in the next ten days.

Mourinho joined Manchester United ahead of the 2016-17 season, with the club continuing to falter in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. The Portuguese himself was coming into his latest managerial project on the back of a catastrophic end to his second coming at Chelsea.

But, there has been a pleasing turnaround in fortunes for both the club and the manager over the last 18 months since then. Manchester United ended the 2016-17 season with two major trophies, which was seen as a big step in the right direction, even though they finished sixth on the Premier League table.

This season, Manchester United have progressed further under the tutelage of Mourinho, sitting second on the table, although the chances of winning the Premier League appear to be slim. The Red Devils have also safely progressed to the knockout stages in the Champions League, and it is shaping up to be an improve campaign.

The club’s board are also pleased by the impact that Mourinho has had on the squad, with the players showing the spirit that has come to be identified with the Red Devils over the years – something that was missing under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

The progress being visible on the pitch and off it, Manchester United have been taking steps to tie Mourinho down to a new long-term deal, with his original contract ending in 18 months. The club has also been eager to secure his future as PSG have been rumoured to be tailing the manager.

The report, though, entails that Mourinho is happy at Old Trafford, and has now agreed a five-year £250,000-a-week deal. Manchester United are now hoping for all the formalities to be completed quickly before they announce the agreement, possibly in the next ten days.

Manchester United fans would now be hoping that with Mourinho’s future secured, they finally end the long wait to win the Premier League title, and maybe even the Champions League in the coming seasons. The news, no doubt, will come as a huge positive for everyone associated with the club.
