Tottenham have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign Scottish sensation Kieran Tierney from Celtic.

According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham sent scouts to watch Kieran Tierney in action last week, and are set to make a move for him. The North London club has joined Manchester United in pursuit of the highly-rated Celtic defender.

Tierney has been a part of Celtic ever since his footballing education began, joining the club as an eight-year-old before rapidly progressing through the ranks. The player broke into the first-team setup in 2015 and has now become a full-fledged member of the senior squad.

Tierney has only grown stronger since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers, proving to be a dependable defender while at the same time providing a menacing presence in attack. The proof is in the pudding as well, with the 20-year-old boasting an impressive return of 4 goals and 16 assists in 61 outings since the start of the 2016-17 season.

Needless to say, clubs have sat up and taken notice of his undoubted talents, and the player is attracting interest from some high profile suitors, with Manchester United and Tottenham set to battle each other to bring him over to England.

Manchester United, in fact, have been monitoring Tierney’s progress for a long time, having scouted him on numerous occasions over the last few months. Indeed, with Luke Shaw flattering to deceive at Old Trafford, due to a spate of injuries and poor form, Mourinho is believed to be keen on signing a left-back.

The Manchester United boss has deployed the likes of Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo on the left side of defence, but to little success. Thus, Tierney is a viable target for the Red Devils to pursue.

Meanwhile, at Tottenham, the future of Danny Rose is uncertain, with the English defender being heavily linked with an exit. Manchester United are coincidentally among the clubs being linked to Rose, whose departure would leave Mauricio Pochettino with Ben Davies as his only recognised left-back.

Therefore, the Tottenham boss has set his sights on Tierney, whose qualities make him an ideal fit as a left wing-back. Brendan Rodgers is likely to be unwilling to let his prized asset leave however, despite genuine interest from two of the biggest clubs in England.

But, Manchester United and Tottenham appear set to launch the offensive for the young defender, and it remains to be seen if either club succeeds in signing him.
