Andreas Pereira has signed a new two-year contract with Manchester United before joining Valencia on a season-long loan deal.

Manchester United have made an official statement to announce that Andreas Pereira has penned a new contract that will keep him at the club till 2019, with the deal including the option of a one-year extension. The Brazilian midfielder is currently on a season-long loan at Valencia

Pereira began his footballing education at local club Lommel United before joining PSV Eindhoven in 2005. The player subsequently moved to Manchester United in 2011, where he has been widely regarded as one of the most promising young talents and graduated from their fabled youth setup in 2014.

Since then, though, Pereira spent two years within the reserve setup before gaining first-team experience at Granada last season. While the club endured a disastrous campaign that ended with their relegation from La Liga, the 21-year-old was a standout player for them.

Deployed in a deeper role for large parts of the campaign, Pereira impressed with his ability to dictate the tempo of the game, although he was often found wanting on his defensive side of the game. But, he also contributed to his team’s cause with five goals and three assists before returning back to Old Trafford this summer.

After enjoying a promising pre-season campaign with Manchester United, where he featured quite prominently, the player found himself fifth on the pecking order in central midfield. Thus, with Jose Mourinho keen to see him continue his progress, Pereira was sent on loan to Valencia.

At the Mestalla, the player has some stiff competition for places, with the likes of Daniel Parejo, Carlos Soler and the recently acquired Geoffrey Kondogbia all vying for spots at the heart of midfield. But, in a more competitive outfit, the youngster is likely to progress further, should he succeed in securing a regular spot for himself.

Meanwhile, Pereira has committed his future to Manchester United, having insisted on several occasions previously that he aims to enjoy a fruitful career at Old Trafford. The new deal will keep him at the club till June 2019, with Manchester United having the provision to extend the contract by a further year.

Pereira is a player who Jose Mourinho has spoken highly of and imposed a lot of faith on. It now remains to be seen if he is able to establish himself as a regular in the Manchester United manager’s first-team setup once he returns from his loan spell with Valencia, next summer.
