Arsenal are reportedly set to table a £300,000-a-week contract to Alexis Sanchez in an attempt to keep the Chilean star from joining Manchester City or PSG

According to a report by The Sun, Arsenal are determined to retain Alexis Sanchez beyond the transfer window and have offered him a new £300,000-a-week contract to ward off the likes of Manchester City and PSG.

Previously, Sanchez was reported to have demanded the same amount in weekly wages and now that the Gunners have come through with the amount, it remains to be seen if he stays back at the Emirates. He was understood to be keen on a move to Manchester City over his other suitors, but the new offer could change his mind.

Sanchez has been instrumental to Arsenal’s fortunes ever since he joined them from Barcelona back in the summer of 2014. He has only gone from strength-to-strength playing for the Gunners and was particularly impressive in the last season wherein he established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.

In fact, the 2016/17 season turned out to be the best one of his senior career so far as Sanchez recorded 30 goals and 19 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal. Despite that, the Gunners endured a humiliating season and settled for a fifth-place finish to lose out on a Champions League spot.

The Gunners did enjoy a late FA Cup triumph by beating Premier League champions Chelsea but that seems to have not done enough impact to persuade Sanchez to stay with the Chilean in search of Champions League football.

As a result, the player has received several offers from clubs like PSG, Manchester City and Bayern Munich. However, Arsene Wenger has been adamant that Sanchez is not going anywhere and it is likely that the new contract can see him continue at the Emirates for more than one more season.

Although PSG have been targeting Sanchez, it seemed extremely unlikely for him to join the French club after they secured the services of Neymar from Barcelona. If Sanchez still chooses to join City, Pep Guardiola will have a lot of options in attack which now also includes the new signing Bernardo Silva.

Sanchez’s arrival will only add to an already strong attacking unit which includes the likes of David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero in addition to the Portuguese.

While a move to City can guarantee Champions League football, Sanchez will have to fight tooth and nail to get regular starts. On the other hand, staying back with Arsenal can prove to be a bigger and better challenge for Sanchez, even if he has to forego the elite European championship for one season.
