Watford are reportedly interested in a loan move for versatile Manchester United teenager Timothy Fosu-Mensah

According to a report by The Sun, Timothy Fosu-Mensah could be on his to Watford this summer as the club are believed to be interested in the midfielder. He has featured in all of United’s pre-season games so far, but manager Jose Mourinho could be looking at a potential loan move.

It is understood that Mourinho will wait until the UEFA Super Cup clash with Real Madrid before coming to any sort of decision regarding Timothy’s future.

Fosu-Mensah’s performances have firmly established him as one of the most highly-rated youngsters under contract at Old Trafford. He was discovered during Louis Van Gaal’s tenure and broke into the first team wherein he played a defensive role. In fact, after Mourinho’s arrival, the Portuguese boss saw him more fit to play as a right-back.

However, the teenage talent is equally proficient at playing as a holding midfielder since he does appear most comfortable and at ease whenever deployed in that position. His minutes last season were very limited mainly because Antonio Valencia was in form while Mourinho seems to prefer Ashley Young as a right-back.

Although the player lacked game time, he definitely does not lack the talent and potential. It explains Watford’s interest in Fosu-Mensah, and a move can actually benefit the Dutchman since he needs to clock regular playing minutes.

Considering his talent, Fosu-Mensah can can become a lethal player if he gets to play more often and that is exactly what the loan move could provide. If the deal goes through, it can also give him ample space and freedom to figure out his preferred position so he can stick to that and improve his skills.

Watford are known to be a club that can nurture young talent. Additionally, the club has seen the likes of Nathan Ake benefit from loan spells in the recent past, which could sway Fosu-Mensah’s mind towards accepting the loan deal.

There has been no end to the amount of talented youngsters Manchester United have lost over the last couple of years, due to which, it would be ideally better to keep a talent as highly-rated as Mensah’s at Old Trafford. Everton were also believed to be harbouring an interest, but United are more likely to send him out on loan.
