Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a shock move for Arsenal superstar Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to provide competition for Victor Moses.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are now turning their attention to Arsenal superstar Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to reinforce their right side of the wing-back area after reportedly failing to secure the signature of Real Madrid defender Danilo.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one of the many highly-touted English prospects to fail to fulfill their potential, at least till the present moment. Brought in from Southampton amidst much hype, the 23-year-old has failed to develop into the superstar he was tipped to be.

However, last season was perhaps a step in the right direction for the English international as he featured in a total of 45 appearances for Arsenal, with 6 goals and 11 assists to show for his efforts, albeit in varied positions and mostly from the bench.

With just a year left on the Ox’s contract at Arsenal though, the player looks set to leave the club. And, the 23-year-old has been linked to the best of English clubs – Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and even Manchester City.

However, Chelsea are now ready to step up their interest in the Englishman – the Blues are ready to open talks with their city rivals over the possibility of bringing the Ox over to West London. According to Sky Sports, Oxlade-Chamberlain has already told Arsene Wenger that he has no intention of extending his deal at Arsenal.

And while Wenger remains adamant that the player will stay at the club, the Frenchman might just be compelled to sell the player to a direct rival, rather than run the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Chelsea’s need for a new right wing-back has accentuated by their failure to land Danilo, which leaves Victor Moses as the only recognised option at the club in the said position going into the new season. Antonio Conte wants to add depth and a player at the position to provide competition to Moses.

The Blues have recently broken their club-record for the highest transfer fee spent to land Alvaro Morata and the board is unlikely to baulk at any asking price slapped on the Ox by Arsenal. The 23-year-old wants to move and the switch to Stamford Bridge might just end up happening.
