Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is being linked heavily with a move to Liverpool, has reportedly rejected a take-it-or-leave-it contract offer from Arsenal.

According to The Times, Arsenal may be set to take a financial hit as regards the transfer of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The player seems set to leave the club, despite their wishes to hold onto the talent. And, his intent has been further certified after he rejected Arsenal’s take-it-or-leave-it contract offer.

The Ox seems to be heading towards Liverpool and with the contract now rejected, Arsenal should look to sell the player in the summer, lest they run the risk of the player leaving on a free transfer in a year’s time – an event which would see Arsenal suffer heavy loss on the investment they have made into the Englishman up until now.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain arrived at Emirates with much hype surrounding his potential, having rejected Manchester United in favour of a switch to Arsenal. However, the player has failed to establish himself into the first-team setup under Arsene Wenger.

While the Ox has often mesmerised with his talent, injuries have forced Wenger’s hand a bit. The 23-year-old, though, became a regular last season, with a total of 45 appearances for the Gunners, with 6 goals and 11 assists to his name.

However, most of his appearances have come either as a substitute or, late into the season, in an untoward position at wingback. The player is keen to return to a more attacking and regular role, something Liverpool are ready to afford in order to entice him to Anfield.

And, as per reports, the 23-year-old himself is keen to play under Jurgen Klopp and is interested in the German’s Liverpool project. At 23, the Ox has considerable experience to add to the squad and the Reds seem ready to move for the Englishman.

Liverpool’s enquiry has already been rejected by Arsenal. But, the Gunners may not have much choice after the latest development. With Chamberlain rejecting the contract offer, the player looks like he is prepared to play out the contract and leave next year, for nothing.

Hence, we may just see Chamberlain push through a move. And, Liverpool seem primed to land the Englishman, if the 23-year-old has his way.
