Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing up a move to sign Thomas Meunier from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Spanish publication MARCA have reported that Zinedine Zidane has set his sights on Thomas Meunier over a move in this summer’s transfer window. The PSG defender is being eyed as a replacement for Danilo, who is set to depart from Santiago Bernabeu.

Meunier progressed through the ranks at Virton before making his first-team debut in 2009. Following a two-year spell with the senior side, the player joined Belgian giants Club Brugge, where he enjoyed a fruitful five-year stint.

Last summer though, Meunier left his homeland to join PSG. The Belgian defender did not manage to establish himself as a firm first-choice at Parc des Princes, having had to share game time with Serge Aurier.

In all, the 25-year-old made 36 appearances across all competitions for PSG, turning in several solid performances while chipping in with a respectable return of 2 goals and 7 assists. His time in the French capital though, could come to an end after just one season, with Real Madrid showing interest in him.

Los Blancos are set to lose Danilo this summer, with the Brazilian set to call time on his career at the Bernabeu after spending the last two seasons playing second fiddle to Dani Carvajal. A move to Chelsea is being widely reported, and his departure would bring about the need to sign a replacement.

Thus, Zinedine Zidane has turned his attention towards Meunier over a move in this summer’s transfer window. As per the report, the player fell onto the radar of the Real Madrid boss after his exploits against Barcelona in the Champions League last season.

The aforementioned and several other performances over the course of the 2016/17 season caught the Frenchman’s eye, who is now set to make a move for Meunier.

The Belgium international is also likely to be keen on a switch to the Spanish capital with Dani Alves joining Les Parisiens – the Brazilian’s arrival is threatening to push Meunier down the pecking order.

And although Meunier is unlikely to become the first-choice immediately, Zidane’s penchant to make constant rotations in his side to keep all of his players fresh should mean that the player will secure regular game time at the Bernabeu.

It now remains to be seen if PSG are open to selling the Belgian defender this summer. For now though, Real Madrid are seriously considering a move for the player.
