Chelsea are reportedly close to agreeing a deal worth €31 million to sign Real Madrid defender Danilo, beating Juventus to the Brazilian international.

According to Brazilian publication UOL, Chelsea have beaten Juventus in the race to sign Real Madrid defender Danilo. The Brazilian international was reported to be close to a move to Italy. However, Chelsea have managed to take the lead and are set to complete the player’s signing soon, in a deal worth €31 million.

Danilo was hailed as the next Dani Alves by everyone as he created a splash in the European scene upon his arrival at FC Porto. A move to Real Madrid followed and everyone was in anticipation of what Los Blancos’ deadly full-back duo of Samba Boys – Marcelo and Danilo – could achieve.

However, two seasons into his career at the Bernabeu, the player has not managed to have the impact he would have hoped to. He has been restricted to playing second fiddle to Dani Carvajal, let alone be the superstar and fulfil his potential. His errors have cost Real a few points as well and the 2016-17 season is expected to be his last for Real.

Despite his disappointing career at the club, the player has managed to get his hands on some of the most coveted trophies in world football. And as he sets to depart the club, there is no dearth of interest in his services. While Premier League clubs were reported to be interested, it was Juventus who sought the player the most.

Dani Alves did an amazing job in Turin. But, the player has now departed from the club and the Italian champions looked to replace him with the player hailed as the one to fill his boots. Juventus had lodged a bid and were thought to be favourites for the player.

However, Chelsea have arrived late into the picture and are reportedly in the lead now. The Blues have agreed a €31 million deal to bring Danilo over to Stamford Bridge – a move that could be announced soon, as per the reports. Danilo would be the immediate contender or perhaps even as a regular at the club.

Chelsea do have Victor Moses in the position. The player has put in brilliant performances in what has been his first season in the new position. However, the more balanced Danilo could be the better option going forward for Chelsea. Also, depth is necessary going into the season, especially with the return of Champions League football.

Real Madrid will also be happy with the amount recouped from Danilo, who can now move on to another challenge. Many players have reinvigorated their stalled careers after a move and Danilo will hope to add his name to the list.
