Borussia Dortmund are reportedly eyeing a move to sign Barcelona wonderkid Seung-Woo Lee in the summer.

German outlet Sport1 have reported that Barcelona wonderkid Seung-Woo Lee is the subject of interest of Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga club are plotting a move to land the Korean wonderkid in the summer transfer window.

Seung-Woo Lee joined Barcelona from boyhood club Incheon United in 2011 – a rare move for an Asian youngster to one of the top clubs in the world. The 19-year-old arrived at the Catalan club with a lot of excitement around him, with many hailing him as the next big thing in La Masia.

However, a FIFA ban on Barcelona sidelined Lee for three years, hindering his progress significantly. Upon rejoining Barcelona, the player has struggled to match up to the standards at the club’s youth setup at times, while still displaying his undoubted talent.

In the recently concluded season, Lee wasn’t a guaranteed started in Gabri Garcia’s Juvenil A side at Barcelona as it was pointed out that the youngster needs to develop physically. Nevertheless, the Korean sensation is expected to graduate to the Barcelona B side, at last, next season and have a chance to impress the senior coaches at the club.

But, if another top club in Europe has its way, then Lee could well be pulling on the colours of Borussia Dortmund next season. The Bundesliga heavyweights have been following Lee’s progress for a long time now, and they also had him monitored during the recently concluded under-20 World Cup in his homeland.

The 19-year-old turned out to enjoy a highly impressive tournament even though South Korea were eliminated in the Round of 16. Lee even scored one of the goals of the tournaments, as his side beat Argentina 2-1 in the group stage.

Having been left impressed by the player over the course of South Korea’s campaign in the tournament, Dortmund now look set to make a move for Lee in the summer transfer window, who could replace the outbound Emre Mor in the senior squad at the Signal Iduna Park.

The Bundesliga club are eager to close the deal before they embark on their pre-season tour of Japan and China to ensure that the Korean attacker is able to join the squad. But, with Barcelona rating the teenager very highly within the La Masia ranks, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to let go of him this summer.

The player, too, harbours dreams of playing for the senior Barcelona side one day, so it remains to be seen if he, too, agrees to leaving the club before even making the grade in the first-team setup.
