Nemanja Matic is reportedly keen on a shock move to Manchester United in order to play under Jose Mourinho once more.

According to a report by The Sun, Nemanja Matic is looking to join Manchester United ahead of next season since he fears Blues boss Antonio Conte wants him out, which means he might have played his last game already for the Premier League champions.

Matic is a part of Jose Mourinho’s list of transfer targets for this summer, which also includes Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier.

Matic spent two successful years under Mourinho at Chelsea. But, that one incident wherein he was brought off the bench during a 3-1 home defeat to Southampton in October 2015, only to be hooked again 28 minutes later, made him feel dejected.

However, the Serbian is believed to let bygones be bygones and is hoping for a chance to work under Mourinho again. The fact that the Portuguese boss repaired his relationship with Juan Mata after taking charge of Manchester United will definitely provide relief for Matic.

Matic, who won the Premier League title under Mourinho in 2015, has two years remaining on his current deal with Chelsea. He has been a key figure in Chelsea’s title success last season and made 35 appearances in the Premier League.

Despite that, Antonio Conte is ready to go hard this transfer season and is looking for a stronger midfielder to partner Chelsea’s current midfield superstar N’Golo Kante. If that happens, Matic will see a significant reduction in playing time.

As far as Manchester United are concerned, Mourinho’s first-choice might have been Eric Dier but a deal for the Tottenham utility man is unlikely to go through anytime soon, and hence the club are switching their focus on to Matic since he does seem more attainable.

Jose Mourinho is determined to sign a long-term dominant holding midfielder this summer to succeed Michael Carrick and provide enough support to Paul Pogba to bring out the best in him.

Signing Matic is likely to be relatively easy since Antonio Conte is being linked with Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. Additionally, Cesc Fabregas is likely to remain at Stamford Bridge next season, so letting Matic go should not hamper the Italian manager’s plans.
