Manchester United are reportedly set to rival Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of highly-rated Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon.

Daily Mirror are claiming that Manchester United are set to join Tottenham and other top Premier League clubs in the pursuit of Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon. The highly-rated left-back has been the subject of widespread interest from the Premier League and the Red Devils seem to be the newest entrant in the aforementioned race.

Ryan Sessegnon has truly become the hottest young property in England at the moment. Joining the Fulham side in 2008, the player has blossomed into a wondrous left-back, climbing the ladder of youth levels to cement his position in the first-team setup at the club.

This season alone, the player racked up 25 Championship appearances as Fulham qualified for the playoffs, only to be narrow defeated by Jaap Stam’s Reading side. Sessegnon has excelled going forward as well, with 7 goals in a total of 30 appearances in all competitions in the present campaign.

The player’s all-round performances have earned him the interest of the very best of English clubs, with Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City all interested in the player. While Liverpool have reportedly bowed out of the race and Manchester City are focusing more on first-team ready players like Benjamin Mendy, Tottenham lead the race.

Spurs do have Ben Davies as the successor to Danny Rose in case the player does end up leaving in the summer, a real possibility with the Manchester duo lurking. However, with Tottenham set to compete in Champions League, Pochettino would need to add depth to the position.

Also, given Pochettino’s penchant for developing young talents, Ryan Sessegnon could follow in Dele Alli’s footsteps and have a similarly instant impact for Spurs. The teenager, though, has now been tailed by Manchester United as well, who have reignited their interest in the player.

Jose Mourinho was reportedly frustrated with Luke Shaw over the course of the season and the manager was seeking the addition of a cultured left-back like Danny Rose or Benjamin Mendy. However, there could be obstacles in the pursuit of either player and the pursuit of Ryan Sessegnon may mean that Mourinho is ready to hand Shaw an extended chance to impress.

Ryan Sessegnon may even be able to topple Luke Shaw as the primary left-back for the club, if he manages to impress Mourinho – like Marcus Rashford has been able to do.

The player is yet to agree professional terms with Fulham and as each day passes by, his departure seems imminent. And if Mourinho gets his way, he may be the next Fulham youngster to make the move to United, the last being Chris Smalling.
