Tottenham have reportedly agreed an £8 million deal to sign Basaksehir wonderkid Cengiz Under, beating Manchester United to land the winger.

Turkish Football are reporting that, according to reports from Turkish Radio Station Radyospor, Tottenham have stolen a march on Manchester Untied in the pursuit of Basaksehir winger Cengiz Under. The youngster was scouted heavily by the Red Devils but latest reports claim Tottenham have struck an £8 million deal to sign the player.

Cengiz Under is very highly rated in Turkey. The Altinordu youth product joined Istanbul Basaksehir in the summer of 2016 and has since delivered performances worthy of being labelled a wonderkid. The player has also earned the nickname ‘The Turkish Dybala’ based upon his performances and skill-set.

However, Under doesn’t play as a striker and is predominantly a winger, with the ability to play on either wing while also being capable of putting in a decent shift as a central attacking midfielder. Under has become a regular at Istanbul Basaksehir this season, with 9 goals and 7 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions.

Under was linked with Manchester United previously as Jose Mourinho seeks to add wingers to his squad, especially after their qualification for the Champions League. The Red Devils have let go of Memphis Depay and Ashley Young has been played in a withdrawn role without any addition to the wingers.

United have been lackluster on the wings, especially, with Anthony Martial looking a distant shadow of his self from his maiden season at the club. Tottenham, on the other hand, are set to part ways with Moussa Sissoko after a disappointing debut campaign for the Frenchman, which warrants the addition of a wide player.

Under, at 19, aligns with Mauricio Pochettino’s philosophy of buying young and smart and subsequently developing the talent, a philosophy which has been paying great dividends – Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Eric Dier being prime examples.

And Under is now set to join the list after reports that the club has finally come to a mutual agreement with Istanbul Basaksehir over an £8 million fee to land their first signing of the summer. It will be interesting to see how the 19-year-old takes to the Premier League.

Who knows, he might just match or even exceed Dele Alli’s astronomical growth graph at Tottenham.
