Manchester United are on the lookout to sign Turkish midfielder Cengiz Under, as Jose Mourinho looks to overhaul his attack force.
According to a report by Bebol, 19-year-old midfielder Cengiz Under has captured the attention of Jose Mourinho and Manchester United scouts. Under is currently a part of Istanbul Basaksehir, and it was during his performances for the club that he got noticed by the Old Trafford side.
The young midfielder has had a major role to play when it comes to strengthening Basaksehir’s overall attack, and has cemented his position as one of the key players in the club. Under lined up for Basaksehir as they ran out 2-1 winners against Genclerbirligi recently.
His performances caught the attention of the Turkish national team, and Cengiz even scored a goal when Turkey played against Moldova back in March.
What makes Cengiz stand apart is his speed and accuracy. In fact, he has even been compared to Lionel Messi in terms of his footwork and goal-scoring abilities.
It has been evident that United are in desperate need of a good midfielder, who can double up as a striker. There have also been earlier reports of Jose Mourinho being interested in Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann. Relatively, it might be easier to sign Under in Griezmann’s stead.
The Red Devils have been monitoring Cengiz’s performances for quite some time now, and Mourinho is pleased with what he has seen so far. However, the youngster has also caught the attention of German clubs Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.
Given how talented he is, Cengiz will be greatly benefited by signing for a bigger European team where he can grow exponentially as a player, and right now, Manchester United would seem like the ideal option.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic out for a while, the responsibility comes down to the likes of Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney and Paul Pogba. While that itself is a formidable lineup, it has not worked out and Mourinho needs to get more options pronto.
Also, in the case of any injuries, the attack is rendered helpless. Thus, signing more attacking players like Cengiz is the need of the hour for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United, especially as they look to chase bigger aspirations next season.
