Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham are reportedly in a three-way tussle to land Manchester United star Luke Shaw in the summer.

The Sun claim that Luke Shaw is generating interest from the top echelons of the Premier League. As per the report, the left-back, who has been criticised a lot by Jose Mourinho and has been linked to an exit from Manchester United, is being tailed by the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham.

Luke Shaw has been out-of-favour at Old Trafford for a while now, especially after his disastrous performance in United’s defeat to Watford early on in the season – one which saw Mourinho publicly criticise Shaw. The relationship, it seems, has failed to mend in the weeks that followed.

However, Luke Shaw has returned from the wilderness – much to the delight of United fans – and his role in United’s second-leg extra-time win over Anderlecht was highlighted and appreciated by Mourinho – which many believe could be the start of him resurrecting his United career.

After being left out of the matchday squads entirely on numerous occasions till the West Brom game, the player has since been a part of the 18 in every match – playing on a rotational basis. However, there is a lot of interest in the player, irrespective of his current status at United.

Liverpool are knowingly in need of a left-back and have been lately rumoured to be closing in on an £8 million deal for Andrew Robertson – a bargain by all cost. However, Shaw could be a better option if he becomes available in the summer and would also please the fans.

Also, Shaw could reunite with his friends from Southampton at Anfield, which could help him get his Saints form back. However, Tottenham could prove to be the perfect place for Shaw to realise his potential – Pochettino has already shown a penchant of handling and bringing the best out of young players.

Danny Rose and Ben Davies have both been linked with a move away from the club and while Pochettino has insisted that his players are not for sale, the prospect of buying Luke Shaw might tempt Spurs into allowing one of the two to leave.

Manchester City, though, have emerged as a shock suitor for Shaw. The Citizens are one of the clubs after Danny Rose and Ben Davies and if Tottenham do persist on their stance, Pep Guardiola is likely to turn his attention to Shaw – a move that could spite the red half of Manchester if it does end up happening.

United fans have always shown their unanimous and unwavering support for Shaw – even when he was ridiculed by Mourinho. Thus, even if City do come in with a bid and United end up accepting, Shaw is unlikely to risk losing the support of the United fans.

At 21, the player represents both the present and the future for whichever club he will play for in the next campaign. United fans however, will hope Mourinho sees the quality and what he requires in a left-back in Shaw by the end of the current season and keeps the player at Old Trafford.
