Liverpool are reportedly set to battle Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the summer pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen superstar Julian Brandt

Daily Mirror are reporting that Liverpool are ready to step up their interest in Bayer Leverkusen star Julian Brandt in the summer. The Reds, however, are likely to find stiff competition in the form of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the pursuit of Brandt, should Klopp & co. go in for the player.

Julian Brandt has come a long way since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Vfl Wolfsburg in January 2014. The attacker is now a full-fledged German international, with four senior caps under his belt, while amassing 124 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen in total.

This season, the 20-year-old has made 23 Bundesliga appearances, with a return of 2 goals and 7 assists. Brandt’s exploits in Germany has brought forth interest from top European clubs, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all looking towards the prospect of signing the player.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to add to the attacking options at Liverpool, with Coutinho and Adam Lallana both linked with moves away from Anfield. Coutinho, especially, has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in particular, which could free up space on the left side of the attack, something Brandt can fill.

Bayern Munich, on the other hand, have ageing options in attack while players like Kingsley Coman, Douglas Costa and even Thomas Muller, who can all don the left side of attack, linked with exits from the club.

The report also states that the club want to sign Brandt as a replacement for Thiago Alcantara, who is linked with a move back to Barcelona. In general as well, the Bavarians love to buy from their rival clubs and Brandt could be another case of the same approach.

Real Madrid too, are eyeing a deal to bring Julian Brandt in the summer. With players like James Rodriguez, Isco and Marco Asensio all linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu, the addition of a young attacker could be fruitful for Zidane & co.

The player is contracted to Bayer till 2019 and is reportedly valued around the £20 million mark by the club. All three clubs, and maybe more, are set to battle for the player in the summer. However, Bayern Munich are reportedly in the lead, with the club having already opened talks over a potential summer move.

But, Liverpool and Real Madrid can present Brandt with the chance to test his mantle in a different, a speculatively stronger or more competitive league, which may influence the German’s decision.

A move or not, Brandt seems set to continue making waves in the European football with his ability.
