Manchester United have no plans to buy a left-back in the summer and sell the struggling Luke Shaw, as per reports.

According to a report by Manchester Evening News, Jose Mourinho has no plans to sign a replacement for the struggling Luke Shaw in the summer as he intends to install the England international as his first choice left-back next season.

Shaw joined Manchester United from Southampton in the summer of 2014 in a £27 million deal, to become the most expensive teenager of all time. Rated as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe back then, the Englishman moved to Old Trafford as the long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.

However, Shaw’s start to life as Manchester United player was a struggle as injuries and other fitness issues pegged him back regularly in his maiden campaign at the club. 2015/16 then saw the youngster show signs of promise, but his season was cut short by a gruesome leg injury.

Having recovered from the horrific injury, it was widely believed that Shaw would finally be able to hit the ground running under Jose Mourinho, but things haven’t improved much on the field. The 21-year-old has started just 7 Premier League games this season, with Mourinho left frustrated by Shaw’s slow progress.

In fact, the start against Bournemouth last weekend was his first since October, and reports stated that Shaw was ready to end his struggles at Manchester United by leaving the club in the summer having grown frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities coming his way.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be tracking Shaw’s situation at Old Trafford and reports stated that the North London club are ready to make a move for the England international when the transfer window reopens in June.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have also been linked with several left-backs in recent months, with Benjamin Mendy being one of the prominent names to be linked with the club, with Mourinho left unimpressed by the performances of the likes of Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian in Shaw’s absence.

However, the report by Manchester Evening News states that Mourinho has placed his faith in Shaw and do good by his recent comments when he ruled out selling the defender. Manchester United, thus, have no plans of bringing in reinforcements at left-back in the summer, with Shaw set to installed as the first-choice in the position.

So Shaw seems to be winning over his Manchester United manager, and it is now up to him to turn his promise into consistent performances on the field to enjoy a fulfilling career at Old Trafford.
