Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly willing to sign out-of-favour Manchester United defender Luke Shaw

According to a Yahoo Sports exclusive, Tottenham Hotspur will be among the front-runners to sign Manchester United left-back should he look to force a move away from Old Trafford at the end of the season.

In the summer of 2014, the then Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal saw off interest from Chelsea to make Luke Shaw the most-expensive teenager in world football. The club then decided to part ways with Patrice Evra, making Shaw the first-choice left-back.

The Englishman made 16 league appearances in his first season at United, but suffered a career-threatening injury in the following campaign in October which saw him miss the entire season.

The 21-year-old has had a few injury worries this time around as well, but even when he is a hundred percent, Shaw has been used sparingly by manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese does not hold the English defender in a high regard, and has handed him just six Premier League starts.

Mourinho has also publicly criticised the defender, stating that he is unwilling to play through the pain barrier. Shaw has also been slammed for needlessly giving away the ball in United’s shock 3-1 defeat against Watford.

Due to his falling out with the manager, Shaw had been linked with a move away from the club. However, Shaw’s agent Jonathan Barnett insisted that his client will not be leaving the club this season, and will look to regain his spot in Mourinho’s first team.

That being said, if the 21-year-old grows disgruntled at the lack of playing time, Spurs may swoop in to offer him an exit route from Old Trafford. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is understood to share a good relationship with the player as he was among the first to contact him after his grueling injury last season.

Shaw looks to have a lot of respect for the Argentine and could be tempted to move to White Hart Lane should he decide to leave Manchester United. Currently Spurs’ first-choice left-back looks settled at the club despite the transfer rumours, and Shaw is unlikely to break into the first team with Rose in there as well.
