Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly plotting a summer swoop for out of favour Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

According to a report by John Richardson of The Mirror, Paris Saint-Germain are willing to make a move for the Englishman in the summer. The Parisians would reportedly prefer to take him on loan, given that he hasn’t featured regularly for the Reds over the past few seasons.

Liverpool reportedly value him at around £30 million and will be willing to listen to offers for the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker. Apart from PSG, West Ham and Stoke City are also reported to be interested in taking Sturridge away from Anfield in the summer.

Sturridge had the best ever campaign of his career in the 2013/14 season where he scored 24 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions. He has since been unable to recreate that kind of form due to numerous injuries or illnesses that have kept him sidelined.

After that superb campaign, he would go on to make only a total of 43 appearances across all competitions in the following two seasons combined, with a return of 18 goals. This season, he has made only 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring 6 goals in the process.

While injuries have played their part in keeping him out of Jurgen Klopp’s team, the German himself has played a part in Sturridge’s lack of minutes. The 49-year-old seems to prefer Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi over him and needless to say, the 27-year-old is in a frustrating situation.

This would be a good move for the Parisians, who currently only have one recognized striker in Edinson Cavani. Daniel Sturridge is not short on talent and ability and on his day, he is capable of being one of the most clinical strikers on the planet.

Had it not been for injuries, he would surely have grown into his potential and become one of the finest center forwards in the world, but at 27 years of age, there is still time for Sturridge to reignite his career and the French Capital might be just the place to do it.

Sturridge would get a taste of Champions League football once again and the relatively low intensity and comparatively less physical nature of the French top flight would also reduce chances of injury. More importantly, it would also make it easier for him to get back amongst the goals, which in turn would help him stay in contention for Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
