Barcelona are reportedly the latest club to register their interest in Kylian Mbappe as they join Arsenal and Tottenham in the race for the AS Monaco sensation.

As per an exclusive by French publication Le 10 Sport, Barcelona are showing interest in AS Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe. The exciting teenage forward has been linked with the Premier League duo of Arsenal and Tottenham recently. And it seems his performances have also caught the eye of the Spanish heavyweights.

As per the report, Barcelona have noted down the player’s name on their supposed player shortlist for the forward positions as they plan their summer transfer targets in advance. Barcelona’s interest in forwards, in recent times, is no secret.

Paco Alcacer’s inability to be a viable cover and replacement for Luis Suarez has prompted the Catalans to look for a striker, which has seen them linked with a summer move for Paulo Dybala, among others.

Kylian Mbappe has been on the radar of Arsenal for a long while now. Wenger himself has confirmed the Gunners’ interest in the striker, who has also earned praise from French legend Thierry Henry.

Arsenal have been looking to add a striker to their ranks and with ambiguity over the future of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, Kylian Mbappe, who can play all across the front three seems a viable target. But, their North London rivals Tottenham have also been credited with interest in the 18-year-old.

While Eriksen and Son Heung-Min have donned the wing positions, Pochettino is looking for an addition of a forward to cover for Harry Kane and a potential upgrade on Son. Kylian Mbappe presents an opportunity to add a player who can act as both. The Frenchman is young and would be a perfect fit for an already impressive young core at White Hart Lane.

But, Barcelona have now joined the pursuit. Mbappe’s comparisons with Theirry Henry might have been one of the things that piqued Barcelona’s interest. Henry had an illustrious career at Arsenal but also had a truly wondrous time at Barcelona after securing a move from the North London club.

And, the Catalans are now looking to sign a player that is showing the same potential, if not more, early on in his career. But, the only problem is that, with the front-three of Messi, Suarez and Neymar present at Nou Camp, Mbappe will have to play as the fourth-choice, which is likely to restrict his game time to an extent.

For a talent as outrageous as Mbappe and at the nascent age of 18, it is necessary for him to play regularly in order to continue his growth and development, which may make the forward think twice before considering a move to Barcelona.

Interest in Mbappe is sure to rise further as the summer transfer window nears and it would be intriguing to see how his footballing journey pans out.
