Tottenham have reportedly joined their local rivals Arsenal in the pursuit of AS Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe, who has been hailed as the next Thierry Henry.

Daily Mirror are reporting that Tottenham are the latest club to show an interest in AS Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe. The attacker has been courted by the best of European clubs in the recent past, with Arsenal keeping an eye on the prospect hailed as the next Thierry Henry. And their local rivals seem to have joined the long list of admirers.

Kylian Mbappe is probably one of the most exciting youngsters plying their trade in Europe at the present moment. In Ligue 1, where there are already many prodigies and amazing young talents making a splash, Mbappe has stood out as the exemplary one from the bunch.

Progressing through the AS Monaco youth setup, Mbappe has been a revelation. This season, the 18-year-old has recorded a return of 11 goals and 8 assists in 23 appearances in all competitions, including a recent hattrick in Ligue 1 against FC Metz over the weekend.

Several clubs have been linked with the French Under-19 international in the recent months. Manchester City were linked with a failed mega bid while the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus keeping a keen eye on the 18-year-old’s progress.

Mbappe is a centre-forward with the ability to play all across the front-three and his playing style has seen him likened to Thierry Henry. And Arsenal, as is the case, has been credited with heavy interest, with even Arsene Wenger confirming that the Gunners are indeed monitoring the player.

But now, Tottenham seemed to have joined the list. Harry Kane is still to find an able partner and cover, after Vincent Janssen’s signing has proved to be a failure up until now. Also, Moussa Sissoko’s failure to establish himself may also point toward a vacant spot in the first eleven.

Tottenham are full of exciting youngsters in their squad and Pochettino has been revered for his ability to nurture young talent. Mbappe could be the answer to Tottenham’s problems of a cover and partner for Kane while his ability to play in wide positions could also present Pochettino with an option for the wings.

Thierry Henry himself has backed Mbappe for great things and looks like the 18-year-old could well be on his way to the Premier League. But, he might not walk in Henry’s footsteps, with Tottenham showing an interest in the prodigy.

Be it at Arsenal, Tottenham or anywhere else, Mbappe looks like a talent that could be on the move. And, irrespective of where his future lies, great things are expected of the forward.
