Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to rival Liverpool in the summer pursuit of young and exciting Leicester City winger Demarai Gray.

London Evening Standard are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Leicester City winger Demarai Gray. The youngster has been linked to Liverpool recently and it seems Mauricio Pochettino is ready to rival the Reds in the pursuit of the Birmingham City academy graduate when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Demarai Gray has racked up a total of 41 appearances for the defending champions since joining them in January, 2016, with a return of 2 goals and 6 assists to his name. While the numbers aren’t that enticing, his overall work-rate and hunger to impress is visible in almost every performance of his.

Leicester City, though, have slipped way down the pecking order in the Premier League. A tale of two seasons – you may call it. While the first one was a fairytale, the second one is turning out to be nothing less than a nightmare for Claudio Ranieri’s side.

The defending champions are one of the many teams embroiled in the battle for survival in the Premier League, a sentence that sounds astounding but is true at the present moment. And should the Foxes go down, they are unlikely to want to part with Demarai Gray, who has a good experience of Championship football.

But, Leicester may not have much say in the matter. The likes of Liverpool and Tottenham are interested in the 20-year-old, which further is a testament to his potential.

Liverpool do have their reasons for pursuing Gray. First of all, a young and hungry winger that exudes a tireless attitude is the kind of player Jurgen Klopp desires in his squad. Also Coutinho’s speculated exit from Anfield could empty the left wing, where Gray can easily slot in.

While Coutinho cannot be replaced so easily, Gray has already become accustomed to Premier League by now and could be another valuable purchase by the Reds. Tottenham, on the other hand, had been interested in the player since long.

And with Moussa Sissoko failing to capture the imagination at White Hart Lane, Pochettino is looking to add a winger to the ranks. Spurs were linked with a January move for Wilfried Zaha but his AFCoN involvement seems to have put them off as they pulled out of the pursuit.

And with Leicester in the relegation scrap, Demarai Gray could be available for a cut-price fee in the summer, should the Foxes make the drop. Liverpool and Tottenham would both love to add to their English core and are likely to be prepared to stump up the cash to sign Gray.

Demarai Gray has shown his will to work hard and improve to be a better player. And come summer, he could be doing just the same but at a more enticing club in the Premier League.
