Liverpool are reportedly considering a summer swoop for young Leicester City winger Demarai Gray, who has found game time difficult to come at King Power.

Daily Mail are reporting that Liverpool are already planning for their summer overhaul and that they have identified Demarai Gray as a potential target. The Leicester City winger has been used sporadically by Claudio Ranieri and is being monitored by Jurgen Klopp as the German plans ahead to avoid a repeat of the winter transfer window debacle.

Demarai Gray is one of the brighter English prospects plying his trade in the English top-flight. The Birmingham youth product earned a move to Leicester City in January, 2016 with his displays for his former home.

This season, Gray has been used sporadically by Ranieri and even though he has a total of 26 appearances in all competitions for the senior side, he has only managed 626 minutes of Premier League action, far from ideal for the development of the 20-year-old’s potential.

He has had decent impact in the Premier League, with a goal and 3 assists to his name and has been more than ready to impress the manager upon his call. The statistics aside, his hunger to reclaim the ball and work for his team has been one of the most impressive things about his game.

And, that is just the attribute that Jurgen Klopp likes as he implements his gegenpressing at Anfield as well. Klopp loves tireless players who puts the team above themselves and Gray seems a perfect fit to that profile.

As per the report, Klopp has told Liverpool to monitor Gray’s progress with a view to moving for the player in the summer. The 20-year-old cost Leicester around €5 million and it is unlikely that the defending champions are likely to ask something outrageous for the winger.

Another quality that further makes him a perfect fit in Klopp’s plan, is his ability to play all across the front three, with the left wing being his favourite position. Also, Coutinho has been linked with a move to Barcelona, which is likely to vacate the left wing, if it does end up happening.

Klopp has already been linked with a move for Hakim Ziyech to replace Coutinho and a home-grown future superstar like Demarai Gray could prove to be a potent addition at Anfield as well.

However, Leicester City are embroiled in a relegation battle and if they do end up going down, it is unlikely that they would be able to retain the likes of Ahmed Musa and Riyad Mahrez, which could see the Foxes go against the idea of selling Demarai Gray, especially with the player having previous experience of Championship football.
