Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, if Sergio Aguero leaves the club in the summer

The Sun have reported that Manchester City are likely to go all-out in pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is a reported target for Real Madrid, in the summer if Argentine Sergio Aguero decides to move on from the Etihad Stadium.

Aubameyang has enjoyed a stellar career with Borussia Dortmund ever since moving to the Westfalenstadion in 2013, having impressed in two years with Saint-Etienne with whom he scored 41 goals in 97 matches in all competitions.

The move to Germany has seen him take the next step forward in his career, with Aubameyang one of the most prolific strikers in the world today. And this season, the Gabonese has romped to the top of the Bundesliga goalscoring charts, with 17 goals from 17 appearances.

Sure enough, his exploits with Dortmund over the last four years have sparked widespread interest in him, with Real Madrid heavily linked with a move for the 27-year-old. Aubameyang himself has revealed his intentions to leave the club in order to take his career to the next level.

While Aubameyang is having a gala time in front of goal and is a regular for his club, one of the most dangerous strikers in Europe is starting to struggle to break into a side that had him as their talisman for the last five years.

Sergio Aguero is no longer an indispensable member of the Manchester City even after notching up impressive numbers of 116 goals and 33 assists in 168 Premier League games for the Citizens in more than five years at the Etihad Stadium.

But, with Pep Guardiola demanding more from the Argentina international and with Gabriel Jesus threatening to send his South American senior down the pecking order at Manchester City, Aguero has hinted that he could seen be heading out the exit door at the Etihad Stadium.

While City officials and Guardiola have remained adamant that Aguero will be going nowhere, the likes of PSGChelsea and long-time admirers Real Madrid have all been keeping tabs on the star striker’s situation.

Now, it looks like City have a contingency plan should Aguero decide to move on, and could steal the march on Real Madrid for Aubameyang in the summer transfer window.

The report goes on to add that City would make a bid of £40 million for Aubameyang, but with Dortmund reportedly asking for an amount in excess of that, they will have to offer more or risk losing their target to Real Madrid, and possibly be left with just Gabriel Jesus.
