Chelsea are reportedly set to rival and possibly hijack Real Madrid’s summer pursuit of Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero
Daily Mirror have sensationally claimed that Chelsea are eyeing a shock summer swoop for seemingly out-of-favour Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero. The Argentine forward has been linked with a return to the Spanish capital with Real Madrid weighing up a £75 million summer swoop and now the Blues seems to have joined them.
Sergio Aguero is widely recognised as one of the best strikers in the footballing world. Despite his fitness struggles, the Argentine’s numbers have been staggering as he has been one of the cornerstones of City’s rise to the top echelons in the world of football.
But Guardiola’s arrival has lessened his importance at Etihad. The former Barcelona man has not taken too well to Sergio Aguero’s playing style, which makes him a defensive liability, which is contrary to what Guardiola wishes his forward to be.
And, things have further deteriorated with the arrival of Gabriel Jesus, who has taken to English football with some outrageous calm and ease. The Brazilian was favoured by Guardiola who pushed Aguero the bench and Jesus responded with a goal and an assist, which is surely not good news for the Argentine.
While Guardiola has remain tight-lipped on Aguero’s starting status and has assured fans that the Argentine is still wanted at Etihad, the actions do say otherwise. Real Madrid have been looking to add more firepower to the attack and someone like Aguero, who they have been courting since long, could be the perfect high-profile addition.
Los Blancos have been linked with a staggering £75 million summer swoop for the player, something Manchester City would happily agree to, considering the age and current squad status of the Argentine. But Chelsea are reportedly looking to throw a wrench in Real’s plans to acquire Aguero in the summer.
The conundrum surrounding Diego Costa’s Chelsea future is known to everyone and there have been reports that the Spaniard is more or less resigned to leave the club in the summer transfer window. The Blues have been, hence, linked with a fair share of forwards in the recent past.
But Aguero might just be the pick of the lot. The Argentine has bossed the Premier League for years and will be a ready replacement for Diego Costa, with the striker more than aware of the rigours of English football.
With an astounding record of 154 goals and 46 assists in 233 matches for Manchester City, Chelsea couldn’t possibly find a better replacement for Diego Costa.
A player of Aguero’s stature and talent is unlikely to like playing second fiddle to someone, which could pave the way for an exit and a potential arrival at Stamford Bridge. This could be one of the major coups of the summer and it would be intriguing to see what Aguero chooses.
A return to the Spanish capital where he first became prominent in European football or a place in London to prove Guardiola wrong – what’s it going to be, Aguero?
