Chelsea are in pole position to sign Lazio star Lucas Biglia with Juventus and Inter Milan pulling out of the race after being made aware of the £25 million asking price.

Italian publication Calciomercato have claimed that, as per reports emerging from Italy, Chelsea are now in pole position to land Lazio maestro Lucas Biglia. The player has been linked to the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Real Madrid but they have all bowed out of the race after being made aware of Lazio’s £25 million valuation of the Argentine.

Lucas Biglia is a 30-year-old Argentina international whose first foray in European football was at Anderlecht, before Lazio came swooping in to bring the player over to Rome in 2013. The midfielder, who can play both as a holding midfielder and in a box-to-box role, has since been at the heart of every Serie A campaign for his side.

This season, Biglia played a part in 12 Serie A fixtures for Lazio, with a decent return of 2 goals and 1 assist to show for his efforts. The right-footed Argentine has been linked with a move to the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, three of the more iconic clubs in Europe.

Juventus are seeking addition to the midfield to fill the gaping hole left by Paul Pogba while Inter Milan are eyeing a major overhaul of their present roster in January. Real Madrid, on the other hand, are looking to add depth to their squad as they look to maintain their lead up at the top of the La Liga Santander table.

Chelsea, too, have been rumoured to be very interested in securing the player’s signature. Antonio Conte’s side are on a wonder run in the Premier League but the Italian manager is seeking additions to the central midfield and sees Biglia as a player who would fit perfectly in his current system.

The latest reports have put the Blues in pole position to land Biglia after Lazio revealed their valuation for the 30-year-old, which is speculated to be £25 million. Lazio’s valuation has put off Juventus and Inter Milan while Real Madrid rumours have taken a backseat even before the revelation of the asking price.

Biglia’s current deal is set to expire in 2018 and, £25 million for a player who has less than two years left on his contract does seem a steep price. But, Chelsea are unlikely to shy away from the pursuit if Conte gives it the green signal. The Italian supremo has brought Chelsea back to the top after a disastrous 2015/16 season and has the unanimous backing of the Board.

In such a situation, Chelsea may just splash the cash for Biglia, who is a seasoned veteran and also has a fair share of experience of playing in front of a back three, which could prove to be useful in the title race.
