Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is reported to be interested in Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer

After a slow start to season, Antonio Conte’s side currently sit on top of the Premier League table 9 points ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool, who both have a game in hand.

Chelsea’s 3-4-3 formation seems to be working wonders and their 3-man defence is seemingly impenetrable. However, that hasn’t stopped the Blues from being linked with a number of defensive reinforcements in January.

According to Transfermarketweb, the Blues’ boss is keen on Fenerbahce center-back Simon Kjaer. The 27-year-old has been linked to Chelsea in the past, and he was also one of the many defenders they were rumoured to be interested in this past summer, before they went on to sign David Luiz and Marcos Alonso toward the end of the transfer window.

Kjaer is currently subject to interest from Serie A giants Inter Milan who are desperately looking to add some quality to their side. The report states that Antonio Conte is interested in signing the player, despite him having a ‘pre-agreement’ with Inter. The Danish international is also reported to be a target for Everton and AC Milan.

Simon started off his career at FC Midtjylland, after which he had spells with Palermo, Wolfsburg and Roma. But it was with French side Lille where he finally began living up to his potential and at the end of the 2013/14 season, he was eventually named in the Ligue 1 Team Of The Season.

Kjaer was eventually sold to Fenerbahce in 2015, where he has established himself as one of the most important players in Dick Advocaat’s side.

An offer from Chelsea may prove too good to refuse for the Turkish giants, who need to sell players because of FFP regulations. However, Kjaer’s importance to his side is another factor they need to consider.

He has made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Fener this season, and has scored 3 goals this campaign. The Efsane are currently sitting at 4th place in the Turkish top flight, 10 points behind league leaders Istanbul BB, and given their position is a league, letting go of such an important personality is too big a risk.
