On-loan Chelsea defender Baba Rahman is a summer target for Premier League side Everton

Rahman had a difficult season last term at Stamford Bridge. He was unable to completely break into Jose Mourinho’s squad and did not fare too well under Guus Hiddink as well.

He made a total of 24 appearances last season, a lot of which came from the bench. Later in the season, the interim manager preferred to use Brazilian winger Kenedy at left-back over him, further restricting his appearances. Antonio Conte too, did not fancy him and he was eventually loaned out to Bundesliga side Schalke 04.

According to a report in Ghanaweb.com, the Everton manager Ronald Koeman has set his sights on the Ghanaian. Koeman reportedly sees him as a possible candidate to strengthen his team and want to sign him in the summer transfer window.

The Toffees have had a mediocre season so far and currently sit at 8th place in the Premier League and a large part of it is due to their underwhelming defence. The report also states that the 22-year-old is seen as the eventual heir to Leighton Baines’ position at the club, given his age.

The report further states that his current club Schalke 04, also want to make his deal into a permanent one at the end of the ongoing campaign. He has made 17 appearances for Markus Weinzierl side so far and has showed his versatility by playing as a fullback a winger and a midfielder, doing enough to impress those at the German outfit, for them to want to make his deal into a permanent one.

Given the astounding turnaround in Chelsea’s fortunes this season, it is unlikely that the former FC Augsburg defender will be able to make his way back into the current squad.

The use of a 3-4-3 formation has seen the Blues’ concede only 2 Premier League goals since the introduction of the formation, and one of them was an own goal from Gary Cahill.Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses too, have been superb in their their fullback positions which automatically reduces the Rahman’s chances of breaking into the squad.

However, if Victor Moses’ stupendous rise to prominence this season proves anything, it is that Chelsea players all over will have a chance to impress Conte, and Rahman will surely fancy his.
