Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has confirmed his club’s interest in Manchester United target Paul Pogba and it could add a whole new twist to the most intriguing transfer saga of this summer.

Man United were reportedly on the verge of signing their former youth player Paul Pogba and the 23-year-old Juventus midfielder looked to be keen on a return to Old Trafford. However, Real Madrid could now be looking to swoop in and steal Pogba from right under the Red Devils’ noses.

French icon and Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane has long been a fan of his younger compatriot. The Champions League winning coach has now hinted that Real Madrid may be working on a deal for Paul Pogba, even as the links to Manchester United intensify with each passing day.

“I don’t know if he [Pogba] will come. Until 31 August anything can happen,” said Zidane, according to the Guardian.

“Everyone is interested in Pogba. He is a great footballer and when you are Madrid you always want the best. But now he is not a Real Madrid player, he is a Juventus player. I can’t say anything more.”

Manchester United have been relentless in their pursuit of Pogba. The Premier league giants most recently submitted a bid of €120 million for the midfielder, but Juventus are not giving in despite the exorbitant offer which would break the world transfer fee record. I Bianconeri astonishingly want more money for the Frenchman and have asked Man United to raise the offer by a further €10 million pounds.

While Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has already brought two players to Old Trafford this summer in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, he has not made a statement on the transfer of Pogba. The player himself also followed Raiola’s cue, recently advising fans not to believe what they read in the papers.

The comments by the Real Madrid manager will now add further intrigue to this long transfer saga. While Manchester United appeared to have been inching closer to a deal, the comments of Pogba and his agent have opened up speculation that the Frenchman could be heading in a different direction altogether. It would be no surprise if the La Liga giants made him the world’s most expensive player, as they have the two most expensive players in history — Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo — at the club already.
