Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has reportedly said former Manchester United youngster Paul Pogba is not worth the amount Juventus want for the midfielder.

Paul Scholes had a glittering career with Manchester United and is widely considered a legend by footballers, fans and pundits. The Salford-born midfielder spent his entire career playing for the Red Devils under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The Scot was like a father figure to the midfielder and Scholes even came out of retirement once to help the manager when United faced a midfield crisis at Old Trafford.

Scholes has recently joined the Indian futsal revolution and is one of the marquee players of Premier Futsal. The midfielder captained the Bengaluru side in the 5-a-side tournament which features fellow Manchester United player Ryan Giggs among other football and futsal superstars.

The former United midfielder sat down in an exclusive with Sport Witness to talk about all things United and one of the topics included the recent talks of a huge bid by United for former Red Devil Paul Pogba including how he felt about the world-class midfielder. The “Ginger Prince” was typically frank and said that even though Pogba had star potential from the get-go, he was asking too much money for a youngster.

“He was a very talented young player, I played with him and I knew how good he was. He played for the first team maybe once or twice, but from my understanding he was asking for too much money. For his age, he was asking for far too much money, that too for a player who hasn’t played first team football,” Scholes told Sport Witness.

Scholes went on to add that the midfielder has shown massive growth and improvement in his game but that he was still far off from being worth the reported fee.

“Okay, he has gone on to great things. I think certainly there has been a lot of improvement. He needed to improve if he is going to be a player worth £86m. I just don’t think he is worth £86m. For that sort of money, you want someone who is going to score 50 goals a season like Ronaldo or Messi. Pogba is nowhere worth that kind of money yet.”

The transfer window has become incredibly inflated over the last couple of years and clubs like Manchester United have been compelled to shelve out more cash in order to get their targets. Despite that, Paul Scholes’ opinion is not unpopular, with some experts and legends speaking up about the ludicrous fee that Juventus are asking for the midfielder and believe that the Frenchman does not command such a high price. The move seems to be heading to its closing stages and the Manchester United legend wouldn’t mind the transfer fee if the Frenchman can provide the Red Devils with the drive to win a couple of titles.
