Manchester United are reportedly prepared to give manager Louis van Gaal yet another enormous transfer kitty for the summer window after the end of the current season.

The Manchester United boss has been widely criticised by pundits and fans for his tactics, which have not yielded much attacking football. In fact, the Old Trafford faithful have often made their feelings clear with chants of ‘Attack! Attack! Attack!’ during the Red Devils’ games.

In a move that could surprise many Manchester United fans, not only is the club’s board ready to stick with the current manager, but they also want to give him a transfer budget of more than £80 million for the summer, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

While Van Gaal helped Manchester United finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League last season, he has had a catastrophic campaign this time around, with the Red Devils being knocked out of the Champions League and Europa League and facing an uphill battle to finish in the top four.

United are currently fifth in the table, just one point behind arch rivals Manchester City with seven matches to go.

Are Manchester United planning on signing a new striker?

It is clear that the Red Devils are lacking in the forward department. Marcus Rashford has emerged as a promising striker in the last few weeks, but the 18-year-old still has a long way to go before establishing himself as the top marksman at the club. With Wayne Rooney being in inconsistent form and struggling with injuries, the Red Devils are in need of some firepower up front.

Rumours suggest that Van Gaal is trying to sign Everton hitman Romelu Lukaku in the summer, which might explain why the club are reportedly giving him such a huge transfer budget. However, Manchester United have competition from Chelsea to sign the Belgian striker, which could push his price up further.
