It looks like Chelsea’ s strike force could end up missing a member, after one of their forwards was reportedly seen in Madrid on the final day of the January transfer window.
Colombian forward Radamel Falcao will fondly remember his days at Atletico Madrid, where he went by the name of ‘El Tigre’ and was renowned as one of the best forwards in world football. Since then a knee injury has derailed his career and he has failed to find success at any of his subsequent clubs — AS Monaco, Manchester United and Chelsea FC.
It is now being reported that Falcao could be on his way back to his first major European club in a shock deadline day move that would leave the Blues attacking options depleted again, though to be fair, the striker is currently recovering from a thigh injury.
According to a report in The Telegraph, “Chelsea want to cut short Falcao’s ill-fated season-long loan and the Colombian could be heading back to Madrid, possibly via Monaco, where he played between 2011 and 2013. Spanish sources have told Telegraph Sport that Falcao has spent transfer deadline day in a Madrid hotel while his agent Jorge Mendes attempts to negotiate the complicated move with Atletico, Monaco and Chelsea.”
Who will take the chance?
Radamel Falcao has been one of the biggest Premier Legaue flops in recent times and the risks taken on him by Louis van Gaal last season and Jose Mourinho this time around have failed to pay any dividends, as the striker doesn’t look like getting back to his old ways.
With Monaco unwilling to terminate the player’s loan deal at Chelsea, Atletico could be their only hope of offloading the player before his contract ends. The question now is whether the La Liga club will take a chance on one of their old henchmen.
