Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal who was recently promised by the club that they would stick by him, has now new reasons to be concerned after the FA Cup match against Sheffield United.

After a decent showing against Swansea City in the Premier League, things seemed to have been looking up for Louis van Gaal and Manchester United, but that seems to have only been a flash in the pan as the Red Devils were back to their woeful worst against League One side Sheffield United in the FA Cup 3rd round.

They managed to pull off a less than impressive victory thanks to a last gasp penalty from Wayne Rooney, in a match where they could manage only two shots on target, and the fans sarcastically applauded wayward shots and expressed their disapproval throughout the match.

U-Turn on Van Gaal

According to The Daily Star, “It is understood United owners the Glazer family have performed a dramatic U-turn and could now be set to axe the Dutchman after seeing their patience tested to the limit. Yesterday’s struggle to beat League One Sheffield United in the FA Cup marked a new low for Van Gaal’s reign with fans openly mocking the Dutchman and his team.”

The same report goes on to say that the board members now genuinely fear that Van Gaal has lost the trust of the fans and won’t even be able to secure a top four finish and Champions League qualification. The Glazers are apparently considering giving him the sack, with the most viable option being to put Ryan Giggs in caretaker-charge until the end of the season.

The decision comes after criticism from former pundits, as well as whispers of discontent from their sponsors Adidas. The Red Devils now face matches against Newcastle United and old rivals Liverpool. It seems likely that by the end of these two matches, Van Gaal could well be on his way out.
