Harry Maguire has been benched while there are starts for Anthony Elanga and Nemanja Matic as Manchester United get set to take on Watford.

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has made quite a few changes to the side that took at Atletico Madrid in midweek for their Premier League encounter against Watford at Old Trafford.

The big change comes in defence, where captain Harry Maguire has been left out on the bench by Rangnick. Aaron Wan-Bissaka comes into the side in his place and will slot in at right-back, allowing Victor Lindelof to move to his natural centre-back role alongside Raphael Varane. Luke Shaw is also axed for the game, with Alex Telles replacing him at left-back. David de Gea holds on to his place in goal.

Moving into the middle of the park, there could be a change of shape as Manchester United have gone in with four midfielders. Nemanja Matic, who had a solid cameo against Atletico Madrid, features from kickoff. He could slot in at the base of a potential diamond midfield for the hosts, with Fred and Paul Pogba on the sides, while Bruno Fernandes starts at the tip.

Alternatively, Pogba could be pushed out to the left flank – a role Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used him quite regularly in the past. Cristiano Ronaldo starts as the centre-forward again and will be partnered by the saviour against Atletico, Anthony Elanga. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho both drop out to the bench.

Manchester United Starting XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Telles, Matic, Pogba, Fred, Fernandes, Elanga, Ronaldo.
