Marcus Rashford dons the armband for Manchester United, while Phil Jones returns for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Manchester City.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made widespread changes to the side that was held to a goalless draw by Wolves in the FA Cup as they prepare to lock horns with Manchester City in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.

The shuffles begin right at the back, with David de Gea returning in goal in place of Sergio Romero. The big news in defence is that Harry Maguire is not fit enough to feature and is replaced by Phil Jones.

Jones has Victor Lindelof as his partner at the heart of the Manchester United defence, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams being the full-backs. In midfield, Fred returns to the starting lineup, with Nemanja Matic making way for him. Andreas Pereira partners the Brazilian in the midfield double pivot.

Jesse Lingard reprises the no. 10 role, playing off the central striker, who is Mason Greenwood. Marcus Rashford and Daniel James are the two wide men for Manchester United, with Greenwood leading the line against Manchester City. The game is a momentous occasion for Rashford, who has been named as the captain for the day.

Manchester United Starting XI: de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Jones, Williams; Fred, Pereira; James, Lingard, Rashford; Greenwood
