Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal took aim at reporters who had criticised Wayne Rooney in the past after the Red Devils’ skipper’s starring performance in the 3-3 draw against Newcastle United at St.James’ Park

 

It would be fair to say that Wayne Rooney has been among the most criticised Manchester United players this season, receiving scathing appraisals from pundits, neutrals, and the Old Trafford faithful alike.

His performance against Newcastle United was reminiscent of his younger days — instinctive, clever and absolutely world class. His manager Louis van Gaal was clearly happy with his captain’s performance, and towards the end of his post-match press conference after the game, demanded why nobody was asking him questions about Rooney any more.

As he left the room, the Dutchman couldn’t resist a slightly below-the-belt blow at Sun reporter Neil Custis, calling him a ‘fat man’. A video of the incident can be seen below:
