Inter Milan appear to have ramped up their pursuit of Manchester United defender Patrice Evra as technical director

According to Italian news agencies including Corriere Dello Sport and Sky Sports Italia, Inter management is said to be keen on the ageing members of current United squad as they see it as financially viable option. Nemanja Vidic is believed to have already agreed a deal with Inter, after announcing he will leave Manchester United in the summer.

The 32-year-old French international left-back has been a regular for United this season, yet it remains to be seen whether he will still be at Old Trafford next season.

Evra, 32, has amassed a total of 265 Premier League appearances for Manchester United and scored 7 goals in the process. Originally an attacker, he primarily plays as a left-back and is described as “the classic example of a modern full-back” who is renowned for his “pace, athleticism, and determination”. Evra “offers a genuine attacking outlet down the left” and is also “strong in the air” despite his noticeably small frame. Evra, whom Sir Alex Ferguson praised for his leadership, has also served as captain for both Manchester United and France.

Manchester United manager David Moyes tried to raid former club Everton for Leighton Baines last summer, and was also linked with a big money offer for Southampton’s exciting left-back Luke Shaw during the January transfer window – suggesting that Patrice Evra’s long-term future at the club is in serious doubt.

And the Nerazzurri, according to the reports coming out of Italy, have now begun close observations of Evra, another Reds defender whose future is in the balance.

Ausilio is understood to have been at the Emirates Stadium yesterday to not only give Vidic an extra look-in but also Evra. Inter’s technical director Piero Aid will have been impressed by Vidic’s performance, as the Serb produced a disciplined display and won his duel with Arsenal’s French striker Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman’s contract is set to expire in June, and his growing years have seen a drop in form this season. The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a return to France, where Monaco and PSG are thought to be keen, but there are no doubts he will be tempted by the interest from Inter Milan.

Yesterday’s goalless draw became a rare clean sheet for Manchester United, with Vidic in good form alongside Evra. Italian media also report that Patrice Evra is aware of Inter’s possible interest, and has taken a liking to the project at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium – where boss Walter Mazzarri’s is looking to return the 2010 Champions League winners back to the top of Serie A.

However, Inter will face some local competition for Evra, as he is also being followed by Juventus.
