Manchester United‘s Robin Van Persie is being targeted by Serie A clubs AC Milan and Juventus, while rivals Inter Milan are keeping tabs on Arsenal target and Real Madrid prodigy Alvaro Morata.
Van Persie Italy Bound
Serie A sides AC Milan and Juventus are chasing Manchester United’s striker Robin Van Persie, according to Portuguese source Abola.
There had been certain reports suggesting that Arsenal might be in the loop as well, with Van Persie’s old club looking to re-sign their former captain. However, the possibility of this happening is very low
AC Milan face competition from Juventus for the Dutch international’s signature. Juventus were the club Wenger wanted to sell Van Persie to, in the first place and the Italian side might be willing to get the striker in their ranks, finally. Wenger had commented then, that Juventus blew their chance at signing the player:
“Juventus can’t think about selling their players for €70 million and then buying new ones for a tenth of that amount. That would be too easy – it’s not possible in today’s football”.
Juve chief executive Giuseppe Marotta commented that he regretted not getting Van Persie
“I have regrets about Van Persie, but it would have been a bad choice for the club if we had paid €30m for a player who would have seen his contract expire next year”.
Speaking recently about this situation, when the Arsenal manager claimed that Chelsea had done a surprising thing by selling Juan Mata to direct rivals Manchester United, Wenger claimed that he always wanted to sell Persie to Juventus:
“In our defence, we were in a more explicable situation [than Mata] because Van Persie had only one year to go. He was 29 and had played here for a long time. It was not a club that I wanted to sell Van Persie to. I wanted to sell him to Juventus. But he had decided to go to Man United and, at the end of the day, you need the agreement of the three parties.”
Therefore, old suitors Juventus might come and scupper the Dutch international from Persie’s former national team colleague, Clarence Seedorf’s team.
Robin Van Persie was in exceptional form in his first season at the Red Devils scoring 30 goals in all competitions. However, his present campaign has been marred with recurring injury. Even so, the striker has managed to get 13 goals in 19 appearances.
Alvaro Morata on Inter Milan’s radar
Inter Milan are reportedly preparing a £10million summer bid for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata
The Real Madrid striker was repeatedly linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu in the winter window and was subject of serious interest from Arsenal while reports also suggested the interest of Liverpool in getting the 21 year old to Anfield.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had apparently made a loan move for Morata last month, as he looked to strengthen his options in attack. However, it seemed as if Ancelotti did not want to move the Spaniard away from the club and wanted back-ups to his first team option.
Morata had made certain comments which suggested his frustration at lack of first team football in January:
“It’s important to have a proper role in the team. I’ve been at Real Madrid my whole life and I’ve been a Real Madrid fan since I was a boy. I will be all my life but it’s important to have an important role. If the moment comes that I don’t, I will look at other options. Staying at Real Madrid is complicated. Playing five or 10 minutes is okay if you accept it. You have the chance to get on the pitch and try to change a game in a short space of time. Every minute in football is gold.”
It seems that the Spaniard could push for an exit when the transfer window reopens again in the summer, if the situation remains the same and Inter might get that the player as they plan a £10m bid for him when the transfer window opens.
