Roma has warned Manchester United that they would need to make a ‘three-digit offer’ for Kevin Strootman in order to be considered seriously.
Kevin Strootman was linked with Manchester United before he eventually signed for Roma last season, but following the arrival of Louis van Gaal, the Dutch international has once again been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Roma has however warned the English club that they would need to make a big offer for them to be considered seriously.
Kevin Strootman signed for AS Roma in 2013 after coming through the ranks in Dutch football and establishing himself as the best midfielder in Netherlands at PSV. The midfielder attracted a lot of interest from a host of European clubs during his time at Holland, including Manchester United, before he eventually decided to join Roma last season.
Strootman made a good start to his career in Italy as he helped Roma mount a title challenge in the first half of the season. But he suffered a serious knee injury in a match against Parma in the first week of April and was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the season. It was a big blow for the 24-year-old, who then went on to miss the World Cup, and is still recovering from his injury before the start of the new season.
Arrival of Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford this summer has understandably resulted in Manchester United being linked with a host of Dutch players in this transfer window. And recent reports suggested that United could make a move to sign Strootman from Roma as van Gaal looks to strengthen the midfield. The former Ajax manager has also expressed his interest publicly, but remains sceptical about his fitness at the moment.
Roma however has warned Manchester United that they would need to make a ‘three-digit offer’ for them to negotiate the possibility about a deal.
“What can I say about the rumours (about Strootman joining United)…
Maybe after a three-digit offer (i.e. 100 million euros), then we will sit down and think about it.” – Rudi Garcia said after the recent pre-season match between Roma and Manchester United.
Garcia also indicated that Strootman is making good progress in his bid to recover from the injury and that he will start running soon.
“Kevin is following a normal recovery programme. He is fine. He will start running soon.” – He added.
