Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman is currently sidelined due to injury and keeping that in mind, Manchester United management has decided to complete his signing in coming January.

Strootman is still recovering from his knee injury which sidelined him from the World Cup also. And the Dutchman is not expected to return until late October or early November.

Considering the current situation of Strrotman, British daily The Guardian has reported today that: “Louis van Gaal has made Kevin Strootman a £30m January target for Manchester United, and the midfielder would be open to the move should Roma consider it, though there is yet to be any official contact between the clubs.”

Manchester United’s new boss Louis van Gaal is a big admirer of his countryman and has made him a top transfer target. But the player is happy with his current stature at Roma and also aware of Van Gaal’s interest in him. The players’ agent also clarified about the situation of his client last week.

“He won’t be back playing until autumn – that’s the time schedule at the moment,” said Chiel Dekker, the agent of Strootman. “He is of interest to Louis van Gaal but not related to Manchester United at this point.”

Dekker said that he also is aware of Manchester United’s interest in him but everything is in the hands of Roma management. He said: “He’s in Rome and he had a terrific season. There has been nothing between the clubs or between Louis and Kevin – they know each other and like each other but at this stage its not related to Man United.”

“Roma do not want to sell. The first thing is its all between [the] clubs. And its also a very difficult decision because he has to choose between a fantastic club in Rome, a club that bought him and supported him while he was injured and [then] you have his personal coach of the national team at United.

“The clubs have to decide. He’s very happy at Rome, he’s happy to stay because they play Champions League next season, and happy to recover his injury, so at this stage we are not part of any discussion.”

Louis van Gaal is very much aware about the current dearth of talent in the midfield of Manchester United. Maroune Falliani, a signing made by David Moyes, has not been able to impress the management of Old Trafford club and they are reportedly ready to off load either the Belgian or ageing  Michael Carrick.

Apart from Kevin Strrotman, United have been linked with host of other names as well, including Barca midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera. Now, given the update about Strootman, it will be interesting to see Manchester United approach the transfer window.
