Manchester United manager David Moyes’ scouting missing has added fuel to speculations of interest in Claudio Marchisio and Davide Astori.
Manchester United boss David Moyes attended the Serie A game between Juventus and Cagliary on Sunday. And various news agencies including Daily Mail has claimed today that the Scot was scouting various players involved in the game, of both the sides. Other senior members of United staff including Chief Scout Robbie Cooke, Phil Neville were in Spain.
Out of form Manchester United manager won first game of 2014 against Swansea on Saturday, stopping the rot of three straight defeats. However, there are many improvements needed in the squad and has been linked with several players this January.
With his defence leaking goals, Moyes is looking for a defender and it is reported that he is keen on Davide Astori of Cagliari. The Italian international has long been courted by many of Europe’s finest, and has rejected several moves in the last few years. He turned down Spartak Moscow in 2012, while he allegedly rejected Southampton last summer. With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic out of contract in the summer, and Chris Smalling struggling for form, it could be that United turn their attentions to the 27-year-old.
United have been linked with Claudio Marchisio in the past, a creative midfielder (though he was on the bench), while
former youth player Paul Pogba was in action. Marchisio is no longer the integral part of this Juve side and Bianconeri could be tempted to cash on him provided a lucrative enough offers comes for the Italian.
The game finished 4-1 to the visitors, Fernando Llorente netting a double, while Marchisio also conveniently scored. Stephen Lichtsteiner got the other, while Maricio Pinilla grabbed Cagliari’s goal.
Phil Neville was in Spain to watcht Getafe v Rayo Vallecano on Sunday morning. Former United player was reportedly there to check out highly-rated Rayo youngster Saul Niguez again. Chief Scout Robbie Cooke was in the crowd to see Rayo Vallecano v Villarreal, possibly to check out the away side’s defender Mateo Musacchio. Youngster Musacchio is enjoying his breakthrough season at Villareal and many top European like Chelsea and Barca are also after him.
Manhester United are reportedly want to change the face of their squad and apart from aforementioned expected signings, want to off load some struggling members of the squad as well. Moyes is likely to show Anderson, Nani and Wilfried Zaha the exit door this month, while he wants to get rid of a dozen players before the start of next season. Anderson is close to joining Fiorentina permanently, Nani could return to old club Sporting Lisbon on loan, while Zaha is tipped to join United old boy Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Cardiff on a temporary deal.
