It is no secret that Manchester United are in the market for the quality defender to replace Inter bound Nemanja Vidic and the latest name to be linked with them is AC Milan’s French defender Adil Rami.
Italian website transfermarketweb has reported today that Improving the quality level of his performances on the pitch for AC Milan, French international centre-back Adil Rami (28), who will be hired back byRossoneri from Valencia next June, has been targeted by Manchester United. It is also being reported that Italian club are however really unlikely not to rely on him for the forthcoming future and letting him leave. Rami is nicknamed as “Shrek” by teammates and Lille supporters.
Despite constant early inquiries from Morocco prior to his first selection, Rami is a French international. He was pre-selected to play for France at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but did not make the final squad. Rami made his senior debut on 11 August 2010 in a friendly match against Norway.
Rami was banned from the Valencia team last October after making derogatory comments about then manager Miroslav Djukic and his teammates and reached a loan agreement with AC Milan, who paid €1 million for the six month loan and agreed to a buy-back option of €7 million after the loan expires on 31st May. Milan are unwilling to pay the €7 million for Rami, who has just one year remaining on his current deal with Valencia and will allow the right of first option expire and will negotiate the transfer of Rami, as they are hoping they will get a better deal.
Valencia has no place for Rami at the club and have already signed Otemendi to replace him, but president Amadeo Salvo insists that both parties will stick to the original deal and that Milan will need to pay the €7 million if they wish to keep Rami.
Rami began his football career playing for amateur club Étoile Fréjus Saint-Raphaël, then known as ES Fréjus. Due only playing the sport as a hobby, he spent three seasons at the club playing in the Championnat de France amateur, the fourth division of French football. In 2006, Rami ascended three divisions after signing with Ligue 1 club Lille OSC. At Lille, Rami developed in a starter making his professional debut in May 2007.
n January 2011, Rami joined Spanish club Valencia agreeing to a four-year contract. He was immediately loan back to his previous club and was, subsequently, a part of the Lille team that won the league and cup double.
Interest of Manchester United in Rami is nothing new though. It was reported way back in February 2012 that the Old Trafford side is interested in the Frenchman.
Manchester United are being linked with almost all the defenders across Europe nowadays and it will be interesting to see which is the lucky one to replace Old Trafford legend Vidic. And United do have realistic chance of signing Rami in the summer.
