According to recent reports, Real Madrid are monitoring Manchester United’s summer target William Carvalho and might make a bid for the young midfielder in the coming transfer window.
David Moyes has shown his interest in the young defensive midfielder who seems to gaining new admirers as the season progresses. Manchester United scouts have been monitoring the Sporting Lisbon player who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as reported earlier. However it seems that Real Madrid too sent their scouts to watch the Portuguese and are reportedly keen on acquiring his services next season. According to reports, Arsenal, Barcelona and Malaga too are monitoring the situation and a decision might well be taken keeping in mind the player’s performance in the coming World Cup.
The 22 year old midfielder is considered very highly in Europe and is likely to attract lots of bidders this summer. Though Manchester United might catch the early bird prize, they have a history of losing out to Real Madrid in the transfer window. Raphael Varane, Benzema, Modric and Ozil all chose Santiago Bernabeu over Old Trafford and there is a good chance that Madrid might lure the young player away from the grasp of David Moyes and co.
Meanwhile, Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that he still has ‘some years left in his legs’ and is not looking to retire following the end of the current season.
The defender is coming to an end with his relationship with the Red Devils as his current contract expires this summer. With David Moyes going ‘shopping’ in the transfer window, it is believed that he will be investing in new defenders and hence Ferdinand might well be on his way out in the summer.
However the defender believes that he is not ready to retire from football and will continue to play even if he is shown the door at Old Trafford. The Englishman believes that he will sit down with the club representatives at the end of the season and then take a call regarding his future.
“I want to continue playing. I’m enjoying my football. The legs aren’t giving way yet. Whether that’s at Manchester United or somewhere else, dependant on what the club want to do. We will wait until the end of the season.”
However the defender has made it clear that if given an opportunity, he would prefer to stay back at Manchester and continue ‘living the dream’.
“Of course, that’s the dream. I’m living the dream and I want that to continue.”
But many believe that the defender has come to an end of his journey with Manchester United and is very likely to be discarded by David Moyes in favour of young talent. With the presence of Jones, Smalling and Evans in the squad, there doesn’t seem to be much room for the English defender who might have to join another Premier League team this summer.
