Liverpool have not given up on Sevilla’s full-back Alberto Moreno and are ready to continue their pursuit to bring the talented 22 year old to Anfield.

The Merseyside club have been interested in getting the player since the start of the window and had identified him as a top priority. Reports indicated that the player was very close to a move to last season’s Premier League runners up, with some English and Spanish newspapers even saying the player was even on a plane with his father to complete a medical with Liverpool.

But negotiations reached a standstill as the Reds were not willing to go above their price of £16million and Sevilla deemed it too little for the talented 22 year old full back and were adamant on their price of £20million.

Jose Castro, Sevilla’s president, initially said that they were aware of Liverpool’s interest in him, but would only sell if the Reds met the club’s evaluation. He had said, “We haven’t reached an agreement, but talks haven’t broken down. We’ll wait and see what happens. If Liverpool are interested in the player and pay the right amount, he will be sold.”

A few days later, it was stated that the player wouldn’t be heading to Liverpool at all, as a deal between the two parties could not be settled. Sporting director Ramon Rodríguez Verdejo said, “The matter of Alberto is practically settled. We couldn’t reach an agreement and I don’t think it can be revived.”

However, it seems that new negotiations might be underway as reliable Liverpool FC journalist James Pearce reports that Liverpool haven’t given up on the Spain international and are willing to table an improved offer of player plus cash.

The player in question in striker Iago Asapas who arrived from Celta Vigo last summer and has failed to impress. Liverpool believe that Sevilla’s interest in Iago Aspas can help them secure the services of Moreno. Aspas is clearly surplus to requirements at Anfield and Liverpool would be more than happy to sell him, especially if that can help them land Moreno. The Spanish team is already believed to have held talks with Aspas’ agent about a possible return to his homeland.

Chelsea have also been linked with the player and if they fail to land their prime target Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid, they plan on spending the sum on Moreno.

The 22 year old has featured heavily for the Spanish side this season notching up as many as 44 appearances in all competitions managing three goals and two assists in the process. He is the perfect epitome of a modern full back- while not failing at his primary defensive duties, he enjoys running at the opposition, committing defenders and delivering the crosses. He is perfectly suited for the Reds.

Liverpool had been linked with Argentina international Marcos Rojo for a while, but recent reports suggest a faliure in the attainment of Moreno would result in the Reds lining up moves for Ryan Bertrand or Ben Davies.
