Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers is plotting two moves to add reinforcements in the heart of the pitch for his side.
Reds bidding for Napoli veteran
Liverpool are considering a move for Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler
Manager Brendan Rodgers wants to sign a midfielder before the transfer window shuts and has eyed Inler as a player who would add tremendously to the squad.
Liverpool don’t have a lot of depth in the heart of the pitch and have considered the Swiss star as a player who would add that to the club’s ranks.
The Napoli star has been impressive in Serie A for a while now has emerged as the latest name on the list of possible buys. The 29 year central midfielder has played in the league 17 times this season scoring and assisting once.
Manchester United seem to be another club seriously interested in notching up the midfielder from Rafa Benitez’s side.
The Swiss star was a target for former Reds boss Roy Hodgson during his time in charge at Anfield. Inler is vastly experienced, having represented his nation on 67 occasions.
It will be interesting to see whether his transfer will happen because it seems unlikely that Benitez would sell a player who has been ever-present to the side. Also, the midfielder is 29 years of age and it has been observed that club owners FSG like to buy young players and Inler’s age might become a serious factor for the club.
Rodgers sends scouts to watch Porto star
Brendan Rodgers is believed to have sent scouts to watch FC Porto play Benfica last weekend to watch Porto’s Fernando Reges. Rodgers wants to add players to Liverpool’s midfield and wants depth in the squad.
The numerous injuries Liverpool had to deal with, especially during the festive period, must have worried the Liverpool manager who could face the same problem towards the climax of the season. Liverpool must not want that to be the case as that might dampen the club’s chances of the top 4 finish they are craving so badly.
In the heart of the pitch, the Reds don’t have many veterans with Steven Gerrard, Lucas, Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson the main options. The club hardly has many alternatives and Joe Allen is nursing an injury at the moment.
Fernando’s contract at the Estadio do Dragao expires in the summer and therefore he has attracted a lot of interest from a host of clubs, including AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli and Zenit St. Petersburg.
Liverpool have been interested in the player for some time with the want to add the defensive midfielder to their ranks and provide Lucas with an established cover and have apparently already held preliminary talks with his agent.
Portuguese daily A Bola reported that the Merseyside club’s scouts watched the 26 year in action on Sunday
Porto might send the impressive player in this window, with the want of attaining something out of his sale. With his contract expiring in the summer, the Portuguese giants won’t acquire anything if they decide on selling him in the summer.
