Liverpool are planning summer moves for Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen, and highly wanted Spanish full-back, Alberto Moreno.

Liverpool had missed out on numerous transfer targets in the summer and winter transfer window, more so because of the club’s inability to attract players with Champions League football than anything else. However, after the CL prospects looking brighter than ever, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is preparing summer bids for quality players so that Liverpool have a deeper squad with good quality and is able to compete at the highest level in all competitions. Rodgers spoke of the importance of Champions League football to attract quality players:

“You have to plan to succeed. It’s something we are doing already. There is no doubt that if you arrive in the Champions League, it opens up the market to a different quality and type of player.

“We are certainly not complacent but you certainly have to have two plans ready. There’s no doubt that where you finish and whether you have Champions League football can affect you

“We know what being back in the Champions League can bring us. If we don’t make it there then we will still look to reinforce the squad in the summer and look to make more strides forward.”

There have been reports which have suggested that Liverpool would target Real Madrid’s Isco in the summer in an attempt to make the Spaniard their costliest signing. While people might regard this rumor as an audacious one, the links to quality players are certainly an encouraging sign.

Reports now suggest that Liverpool would be attempting to sign Jan Vertonghen from Tottenham in the summer. The highly rated defender came to Tottenham from Ajax in 2012. The Belgian international recently hinted of a possible move from the White Hart Lane, when asked if he would stick with Spurs with no Champions League football next season:

“Those are always difficult questions. What I want is to play in the Champions League with Tottenham, so, hopefully, I will get there this year. I don’t complain about anything. Let’s see after the end of the season and after the World Cup.”

Liverpool are reportedly ready to pounce on the chance to capture the defender as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his faltering back line. However, Tottenham are now willing to offer the player a pay rise in a bid to keep him at White Hart Lane.

Liverpool are also linked with a summer move for Sevilla’s full-back Alberto Moreno and it looks likely that Brendan Rodgers would make a move for the highly rated youngster, if the Reds get to Champions League football at the end of the season.

Sevilla’s prized asset has been targeted by Manchester United, who focused their attention on the 21 year old after Leighton Baines signed a new deal at Everton. Real Madrid and Napoli too, have been monitoring the player’s situation. Real Madrid would be Liverpool’s biggest competition with some websites suggesting that a 21 million move to the Spanish giants is already set this summer.

Sevilla recently re-signed Moreno until 2018 with a €30 million release clause, but the club would apparently be willing to lower the price to €18 million.

Moreno is a quick and athletic player who is willing to get forward. The 21 year old provides his side with a genuine attacking threat as he links up with attackers very well. He is a good passer of the ball and his crosses are very accurate. He also positions himself well and stays on his feet without committing completely while defeding. Moreno is a regular starter in Spain’s U 21 side and was called up in Spain’s senior squad after the injury to Jordi Alba. With Liverpool’s weak defence, the addition of the young player would be a huge boost.
