Javier Manquillo will undergo a medical on Monday ahead of completing his move to Liverpool FC from Atletico Madrid.
The player will be signing on loan for two years but the Reds have the option of making his transfer, permanent, at the end of the first season. Liverpool Echo underline the terms: “The 20-year-old right-back will join on a two-year loan but the Reds do have the option to make the move permanent next summer for around £5million. Under the terms of the deal, the eventual fee will be determined by the number of appearances Manquillo makes.”
Diego Simeone rates the player very highly and refused to sell him to Liverpool last winter because the Premier League club didn’t put a buy-back clause in his contract. It seems that Rodgers is now close to getting the player he has admired for a while.
Manquillo is one for the future but he has shown aptitude and ability to play at the highest level already. Given Johnson’s poor form, it is a probability that the Spanish right back is included in the starting 11 by Rodgers straight-away. Young Flanagan and Manquillo could possibly fight it out for the first team spot. Johnson’s experience could come handy, whenever Rodgers uses him, if the Englishman ends up staying with the Reds. But Manquillo possesses the right attributes to replace Johnson in the starting 11.
Liverpool’s CEO, Ian Ayre, has travelled to Spain to finalize the deal for Manquillo as well as finally successfully negotiate a deal for Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno.
It seems that Liverpool will finally get their man in the third attempt as talks have reached an advanced stage for his transfer and the club is confident that the Spaniard will sign for the club.
Moreno shone in Spain last season and helped his side win the Europa League. He came through the youth ranks at Sevilla and made his senior debut in April 2012. Moreno’s wonderful season helped him be named in the provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup, but he was eventually axed in the final list.
He would be a wonderful addition to the Liverpool side looking to increase their depth and quality for next season where they return to the Champions League and try to make a planned title challenge. Jose Enrique is the team’s current first choice left back. The recurring injuries to Enrique have halted his progress with the Merseyside club and Rodgers wants an upgrade for that spot. Moreno was easily fit into the starting 11 and Rodgers would have a good back-up in Enrique.
