Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants to strengthen his squad ahead of next season’s UEFA Champions League battle. Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri has been identified as an alternate target to Adam Lallana by the Premier League side. Liverpool officials have made an official enquiry for the Switzerland Winger and are waiting for the response from Bayern Munich.

Liverpool made a strong come back after finish outside European places in 2012-13 season to earn 2nd place in English Premier League season 2013-14. Manager Brendan Rodgers believes that his squad lacks strength in depth for Premier League and Champions League battles, as the Mersey-siders are looking for quality signings to replace the deadwood in their roster.

Liverpool are planning a summer clear out of players with players like Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Kolo Toure, Fabio Borini, Pepe Reina, Sebastian Coates, Ossuma Assaidi and Suso finding their futures in doubt. These players aren’t regulars at Anfield and selling them will help to free up the space for new additions in the squad.

Brendan Rodgers is targeting quality over quantity and that is what he is expecting from Switzerland’s torch bearer for 2014 FIFA World Cup, Xherdan Shaqiri. Swiss winger built his reputation as a promising youngster during his playing days with FC Basel. He was a target of Liverpool when Bayern Munich grabbed his services in a €11.6 million deal in 2012.

Xherdan Shaqiri has won a number of trophies and medals since joining the Bavarian giants. But his lack of playing time has given serious hopes for Premier League side. The Swiss winger has started only 1o Bundesliga games and a move abroad might yield him more starts as well.  He finds himself behind the likes of Arjen Robben, Frank Ribery, Thomas Mueller, Mario Goetze etc. and he is unlikely to change the pecking order at he Bayern Arena. Liverpool has made an enquiry about Xherdan Shaqiri’s availability to Bayern Munich officials and are hopeful of securing the deal.

Xherdan Shaqiri provides a realistic alternative to Southampton captain Adam Lallana, who is another prime target of Liverpool. The 22-year-old Swiss winger provides will be a quality addition and is a Multi-Dimensional player, which ticks the boxes of Liverpool management. Being back in the Champions League among the European elites increases the attractiveness of Liverpool FC and they are hopeful of building on it.

Can Liverpool officials convince Xherdan Shaqiri to trade the Red Jersey of Merseyside to that of  Bayern Munich?
