The situation of Cesc Fabregas at Barcelona is very complicated at the moment and the midfielder is said to be considering his exit from Camp Nou. However, for his former club Arsenal, Fabregas is a ‘secondary’ target.

English newspaper The Telegraph has reported today that: “Arsenal will not prioritise the signing this summer of Cesc Fabregas above recruiting a new striker and holding midfielder but will seriously consider activating their buy-back clause should a Premier League rival bid for their former captain.”

Fabregas struggled to make into the starting XI of Barca last season and whenever he got any opportunity, he failed to make any positive impact. Now, the player is said to be looking for an exit from the club and the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly interested in his services.

When Fabregas moved to Catalunya from Arsenal, there was a clause inserted in his contract that the Gunners will have a ‘first refusal’ of £25million should other clubs make an offer. And now, Manchester United are on verge of making a serious offer for him. And Barcelona are also ready to listen for the offers as the management feels that they have invested “too much” on transfer fee of Neymar and also considering the renewed contract of Messi, Barca are going to need some cash to fill the other areas of concern i.e. defence.

Reportedly, new boss Luis Enrique also considers Fabregas as the “invincible” member of the squad. Enrique has also captured the services of Rafinha for this season by refusing to extend his loan period to Celta Vigo. Interestingly, Rafinha plays on a similar position where Fabregas plays.

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is very much aware of the current situation of Fabregas but is holding his cards to his chest. One big plus point for Fabregas in favor of Gunners is that he will be considered as a “home grown” player at Emirates.

The key reason for this wait of Arsenal is of course the urgency to fill the other (more important) areas of concern. Arsenal are currently in the market for world class striker, holding midfielder and full back.

Karim Benzema of Real Madrid and Mario Mandzukic are the primary targets but no progress has been made on both yet. With Bacary Sagna almost guaranteed of joining Manchester City, Wenger has been forced to look for a right back in the market.

Arsenal tried to sign Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran last summer but failed in their attempts. Now, Aurier of Toulouse is drawing the interest of Wenger and he is expected to make an initial offer next week.

And whether Arsenal make an offer or not, coming weeks of this transfer window are going to be very crucial for the future of Cesc Fabregas.
