Spanish giants FC Barcelona are ready to outbid Arsenal in order to sign Javi Martinez with a £30million-plus bid for the Bayern Munich defender cum midfielder at the end of the season.

English newspaper Daily Mail has reported today that since it will be very difficult of lure Tiago Silva, their primary target, away from Paris Saint Germain, Barca management have turned their attention towards Martinez who is reportedly unsettled at Allianz Arena.

Recent reports in the English media have linked Arsenal with a move for Martinez but the entry of Barcelona is a bad news for Gunners as ex Athletic Bilbao star will naturally prefer to play in his home country.

Defense is the area of biggest concern for current Barca squad. Captain Carles Puyol is retiring at the end of the season and Garrard Pique is continuously facing a hip problem since past few months. Pique’s form has also been a reason of worry for Barca management as he is not been able to maintain the consistency off late.

Martinez is known for his ability to stop aerial threat, a long term problem for current Barca defense. His natural defensive instincts supplemented with an ability on the ball that allows him to function very effectively in midfield.

Martinez was a regular starter under Jupp Heyncked at Bayer but Guardiola has used him sparingly this season which is a key reason he is feeling unsettled at Bayern. And such is the desire of Barca to lure him away from Bayern is that they are willing to met a £30m-plus valuation of the player.

The 25-year old, is known for his ability to play as centre half and in centre midfield with equal ease. However, his lack of playing time at Allianz Arena has forced him to think for a future away from the club.

Arsenal meanwhile, are looking for a quality player who can operate with equal ease in both central midfield and as central defender. Arsene Wenger is seemingly concerned with continuous injuries problems of both Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.

Primary target of Arsenal, Lans Bender claimed recently that he is not yet ready for a big European club which was a big setback for the future plans of Arsene Wenger. And now, entry of Barcelona, a bigger in terms of money and glamour, in this chase is a further setback for Arsenal.

THT Verdict:

It is an open secret that Javi Martinez is currently unsettled at Bayern Munich. And quite naturally, big European clubs are monitoring his situation. As far as interest of Barca in Martinez is concerned, it is a setback for Arsenal as lure of Catalans will be too big to ignore for him.
